If a patient is missing one or more permanent teeth, Dr. R. Erik Cantwell may recommend a dental bridge in West Jordan, Utah. A dental bridge is an appliance that closes the gap caused by missing teeth. A dental bridge consists of crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap with a false tooth in between. The replacement tooth can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these.
To place a dental bridge, our dentist first prepares the teeth on either side of the gap, which are called abutment teeth. A small amount of enamel is removed to allow room for the crowns. Impressions of your teeth are made so the crowns and replacement teeth that make up the dental crowns can be made. Our dentist may place a temporary bridge to protect your teeth and gums while your permanent bridge is being constructed. When the bridge is complete, our dentist will remove the temporary bridge and the new bridge will be placed in your mouth. Before cementing it in place, our dentist adjusts it to achieve an ideal fit. After the fit is satisfactory, our dentist cements the bridge permanently into place.
