Your child’s smile is quite vulnerable to dental issues, and it’s important to help them prevent those dental issues so they can maintain strong and healthy teeth and gums. To help you do so, Dr. R. Erik Cantwell and our dental team encourage you to help them keep up on oral hygiene as well as visit our office regularly. We also encourage you to pack them a tooth-healthy lunch each day. To help you do so, we have some tips.
First, avoid packing applesauce. This is recommended because applesauce has natural and added sugars that can attack the teeth and form cavities. For a substitute, you can pack a small container of cottage cheese. You can also add flavor to the cottage cheese by mixing it with fruit.
Second, pack real fruit in your child’s lunch. Many people think fruit snacks and fruit leathers are a good substitute for fruit when the reality is they’re not because they can stick to the teeth and promote dental issues. It’s better to pack fruits like bananas, apples, oranges, strawberries, and grapes.
Third, pack plain milk in your child’s lunch. Milk has a great source of calcium, which can help your child’s teeth remain healthy and strong. Please avoid packing strawberry or chocolate milk because they have added sugar that can harm your child’s chompers.
